How to check NTP Synchronization ?

# ntpq -rl | grep -i reftime

If the "reftime" shows some Hexadecimal value then it is in synchronization with the NTP server. Rather if it shows a zero value then the NTP is not in syncronization.

Same could be found with the /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log and look for synchronization.

Online JFS not working

When you come across a situation where your online JFS is not working.

# swlist -l product | grep -i online : Command to display online JFS.


You have verified that the online JFS has been installed.


When you try to extend the filesystem size online, you get the following message:



# fsadm -b 52166656 /u01
fsadm: /etc/default/fs is used for determining the file system type
fsadm: You don't have a license to run this program
#

# /sbin/fs/vxfs/vxenablef -a : Command will fix the problem by scanning the JFS license.

How to check device status in HPUX V3i

# ioscan -P health -C  disk/tape/fc : Command to check the device status.

Possible status:

1) online

2) offline

3) limited

State of a Patch in HPUX

Patch is said to be in following state:

1) Applied.

2) Commit ed.

3) Supersedeed.

When a patch is superseded by two patches then the old patch can be committed using the command # cleanup -c #

# : Superseded number.

How to check patches in HPUX

The below post shows to check the patches in HPUX:

# swlist -l patch : Command to list the patches installed in HPUX.

# check_patches : Command check the patches on the box and its state.

# apply_patches: Command list the installed patches.

Find Your HBA Connection


This post will show the information on how to find your HBA WWN and where you HBA is connected.

# lsdev -Cc adapter 

# lsdev -p fcs0

fcs0 is made up of fscsi0 and fcnet0.

fscsi is the channel used for the transfer of data over FC HBA.

# lsattr -EHl fscsi0

And locate the field called "connected_to" which will show where you HBA is connected.

Boot Information in NVRAM

NVRAM :  Non-volatile Read Only Memory.

Its a memory on which the information about disk is stored.

# bootlist -m both -o -v

The output of this file will be similar to /etc/path_to_inst file in Solaris.
